Hi, I recently decided I couldn't handle how bogged down my laptop had got, so decided a fresh start was in order. I've got the OS and every other driver loaded no problem, the one that is holding me back is the wireless driver. The IBM/Lenovo drivers download page for the r50e lists 4 different drivers for it, but none of them work. After unpacking them to the drivers folder, and finding their relevant setup files they offer different error messages or claim to have installed, but actually haven't. The only solution I could see on these forums was to go directly to the Intel website for a driver. Following the link suggested in that post lead me to the Intel page, with a link to automatically detect the hardware. The Intel site failed to recognise the wireless adapter.

It was working before I reinstalled the OS, but I don't know if it is supposed to be intel based. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Phooney. Install Checkpoint Gaia Virtualbox Download there. Thanks lead_org, that does appear to be the correct driver. The laptop now recognises that it has a wireless card, it can see my router (and various other routers in the area), I can connect to my router, and it says it has an excellent connection. Unfortunately, the laptop doesn't seem to recognise that it should be able to connect to the internet via this network connection, every page I've tried fails. My other laptop connects through the router no problem, so I was wondering if one of the other drivers I'd attempted to install may have been interferring. I uninstalled all the other network drivers I could see via add/remove programs, no dice. Next step I completely formatted the hard drive and reinstalled xp again, now the only driver I have installed at all is the one you have suggested. Again, it can detect its wireless card, see my router, it can connect, but the internet remains unreachable. Thanks for your help so far, any further suggestions from you or anybody?
